I remember working with a Client(turned into a friend now) a little over a year ago. I was trying to help her make a tough transition from one industry into another & to develop the courage to go ahead with a chosen path inspite of the possible challenges and the obvious ‘fear driven’ views from friends & family. As I reflect on that experience today, I am quite glad she made that move because today she is growing into a remarkable working in areas of her strength.
One of the biggest challenges of leaders in most organisations today is how to effectively & profitably make that shift into this new world of work, deal with its uncertainties and still maintain & exceed the success they had initially gained in the ‘previous normal. Is the technology available to make this shift; yes. The area to pay a lot of attention to, is ‘the people’.
People are extremely vital in this new decade of possibilities and immense opportunities. There are a lot of fears as well. People are afraid due to the dwindling economy, that they could loose their jobs, people are afraid they or their loved ones could catch the COVID-19 virus; people do not know who to trust anymore. Those they once trusted, have betrayed them time and time again. So there is a lot of fear in the land and this is preventing people from developing the courage to reskill themselves and adapt to the new world of work.
I am confident we will get through this, but we have to:
1. Work together for the benefit of all of us
2. Become trustworthy professionals; We cant receive what we haven’t given.
3. Believe in the potential of those working for us. Its in the potential that we see the possibilities of a bright future
4. Redefine what leadership means to you. There is a difference between a Manager & a Leader; there is also a difference between a ruler & a leader; there is a huge difference between a self-centered leader & a selfless leader
5. Rebuild our values and ensure we can see and feel each other’s humanities in them.
I am really confident we will get through this because I believe in you!
